Pity Sony – they’ve just reported net losses of £1.3bn for the final three months of 2011, compared with a profit of 72bn yen a year earlier. Where do they generate value in their portfolio of consumer electronics, film, music and games? Maybe the new leadership of vice president Kazuo Hirai, who will take over as chief executive from Sir Howard Stringer (himself a highly respected and capable leader) on 1st April, can fix some of the structural issues.
