Judith Clegg on why society needs entrepreneurs

Radio 4 is always guaranteed to stimulate and / or entertain. Four Thought on 11th January was no exception. Entrepreneur Judith Clegg (founder of the Takeout consultancy and the Glasshouse network for entrepreneurs) spoke on the rewards of business start-ups and the contribution they make to society.

She spoke about competition and collaboration going hand-in-hand; the need for transparency and accountability; a shared culture of trying to improve the world; flexibility in commercialising good ideas; how they nurture talent that maybe doesn’t fit into more traditional organisations; and how they encourage people with passion and zeal.

She concluded: “I wonder what would be life be like if institutions and each of us as individuals took on some of these ways of working and values? I think it would be better. I think that the start-up culture can change the world.”

Those of us wanting to be more entrepreneurial would do well to read what she has to say:
